Film Categories

The Young Image Makers (YIM)

YIM is co-sponsored by the Cayman National Cultural Foundation and is open to any child between the ages of 10 and 17 who has been resident in Cayman for one year. Films can relate to any subject but must run from 1-3 minutes in length. Successful entries will be screened.

Cayman Underwater Film Festival

Cayman Underwater Film Festival is co-sponsored by CITA and is open to submission internationally. The films must be under 40 minutes in length and be shot predominately underwater. They can be documentary or narrative in subject. Successful entries will be screened.

First Film

In this track we are looking for first time filmmakers and their debut film. It can be in the short category (40 minutes or less) or a feature film (40 minutes and over). This category is open to both domestic and international entries. Successful entries will be screened.

Animation

We are looking for both short films and features done in animation. All types of animation will be accepted. This category is open to both domestic and international entries. Successful entries will be screened.

Environmental Focus

We are looking for films that showcase the earth and its many wonders. This category is open to both domestic and international entries and can highlight environmental issues and beauty from around the world. Successful entries will be screened.

Narrative Features (full length)

Original films from all over the world will be accepted. These entries should be 60 minutes or longer. We are looking for a good story that is communicated in a powerful and interesting way that keeps the audience engaged. Successful entries will be screened.

Narrative Short Film

Original films from all over the world will be accepted. The Narrative Short Film should be 40 minutes or less. We are looking for a good story that is communicated in a powerful and interesting way that keeps the audience engaged. Successful entries will be screened.

Documentaries

Documentaries should be 20 minutes or longer and educate the audience about any chosen topic. This category is open to both domestic and international entries. Successful entries will be screened.

Extreme Sports

This category should be 20 minutes or less. Films should demonstrate the skill and excitement of a single extreme sport or a variety of extreme sports. All types of activates will be looked for. This category is open to both domestic and international entries. Successful entries will be screened.

Local Cayman Filmmaker

A film by a local filmmaker here in Cayman named after filmmaker Frank E Flowers. The film must premiere at CayFilm and no other local festival.

Fake Film Trailers

A trailer for a fake film must be 1 to 4 minutes.

Music Video

A music video for an original song. 1-5 minutes

Submission dates: January 1st, 2017- April 14th, 2017
Full length (over 40 minutes) and short films (under 40 minutes) will be accepted unless otherwise specified.
